When the spirit writes to the churches in the book of Revelation , He declares that the church of Laodicea is lukewarm, He then goes on to tell them to clean up their act or He will spew them out of his mouth. Rev 3:14-22 (NIV)
I know my view is rather
simplistic but the most of what Jesus
taught was very simple. I think Jesus wanted us to align our hearts to God as
well ask ourselves questions instead of always going with the flow.
But
what is a lukewarm Christian?
A lukewarm Christian is a person who is neither hot nor cold. Lukewarm Christianity is passionless, comfortable to the point of being lazy.
3 things determine whether a Christian will be lukewarm or not.
A lukewarm Christian is a person who is neither hot nor cold. Lukewarm Christianity is passionless, comfortable to the point of being lazy.
3 things determine whether a Christian will be lukewarm or not.
1.
What he treasures.
2.
Who he is afraid of.
3.
What he serves.
- All of us live either with a view of eternity or in pursuit of a comfortable life here on earth
"store up
for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and
where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there
your heart will be also". Luke 12:34(NIV)
- You are either afraid of men or afraid of God.
“I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of
those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you
whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has
authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him". Matthew10:28 , Luke 12:4-5(KJV)
- There are only 2 things we are servants of –Money or God.
"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one
and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other.
You cannot serve both God and money".
And we all make our choices and it is these choices that make
us either hot or cold. A person who is hot towards God will be cold towards
men.A person who is cold towards God is hot towards men.
What
makes a Christian lukewarm?
- · He wants a life in heaven but he desires and treasures life here on earth.
- · He wants to serve money and still retain fellowship with God
- · He wants to please God and still yet please man.
Unfortunately our systems are not in a position to do both. Once a person’s heart is focused on pleasing God, the fear of man disappears.
Once our hearts are focused on creating a life
here on earth, everything about heaven pales to insignificance and when our
hearts are focused on the pursuit of money, the things of God fade into the
background.
This is what makes the laodecian church lukewarm, it wants to do both. The spirit of God describes it as an extremely rich church that prides itself as a church with no need of anything.
How do I know am lukewarm?
·
When you find yourself making decisions based on what men think or
say instead of what the bible says.
You are more afraid of men than of God
You are more afraid of men than of God
·
When the fluctuations of the economy scare you more than the signs
of the return of Christ.
Your focus is here on earth not on heaven
When you are ready to compromise on the word of God in order for a business deal to go through.
You are serving money not God.

think lets continue this conversation ….
